For best results, plant soybeans soon after your last spring frost when temperatures are 62 degrees or better. If you need seed development, it is best to plant prior to June 20th. If you need late season attraction, soybeans are a good option for fall planting. Just don’t expect seed production when planting in the fall.
A forage soybean has different genetics than crop soybeans. Forage soybeans should have larger leaf area, taller plant height, more nodes, more nutrient concentration in the leaf, and more browse tolerance. The best forage soybeans can produce 3 times as much tonnage per acre than a crop type soybean.
If you are broadcasting, you need 1.3 bags per acre. If you are drilling/planting in a moderate deer density area, you can plant one bag per acre. If you have heavy deer density, you can plant up to 240,000 seeds per acre.
